This tour starts around Pinhão area, heart of the Douro wine region, and then we take a scenic drive on national road 222 heading to Villa Nova de Foz Côa. Once there, we will start by exploring the museum and in the afternoon the Archaeological Park, where you'll discover some of the most impressive rock art in the world. You will be amazed by the intricate details and well-preserved paintings that date back to the Upper Paleolithic period.
The Côa Valley Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering an area of approximately 17,000 hectares and home to one of the world's largest open-air rock art collections. The rock art in Parque do Côa dates back to the Upper Paleolithic period, with some of the images estimated to be over 25,000 years old. The images depict a variety of animals such as horses, deer and aurochs, as well as human figures and abstract symbols.
The descent to the Côa Valley is done in a 4x4 vehicle between ancient stone walls, with traditional almond and olive groves. Along the descent we have a panoramic view of Quinta de Erva Moira, one of the most beautiful wine estates in the Douro.
