Walking in Douro valley was something natural. There was no other option. People walked long distances to go to work in the fields, for example. Meanwhile,  cars arrived and roads became more impersonal. In recent years, the visitors of Douro have been occupying the place of the locals in these paths and roads.

The picture shows an old, wise and kind lady from the village. In her late eighties, she walks every morning to her fields, does her things there and returns home to prepare lunch.

It sounds simple and regular, but in this simplicity, we find such strength. She has her formula to happiness, one that involves walking.

Douro Walks programmes in Douro valley are designed to give you an insighful perspective of our culture and ways of life.
