One of the possibilities to get to Douro valley is by train. Leaving from Porto, there are some departures happening at different hours of the day. So, you should take Douro Line, departing from Porto – São Bento or Porto – Campanhã and head to Pinhão. Check the information on the webpage https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/train-times/Train-time-results and pick the one that suits you the most.

If you arrive in the first hours of the day, you will be able to enjoy a day in the valley and engage in some of these activities: a walk, a wine tasting, a picnic, a boat ride, an on-the-road tour or a more local and customized experience, one that may involve, for example, a firewood oven or a cooking class. Check our website for further information http://www.dourowalks.com and send us a message. We will be happy to prepare your day in the valley.

At the end of the day, you can return to Porto city once again by train. Timetables are available at http://www.cp.pt. Please bear in mind that the train timetable may be different on weekends.

The ride on the train takes around two and a half hours (depends on the type of train you take), but it is a wonderful postacard from the region. It offers beautiful perspectives over the valley. It is a trully unique experience. You are entering the valley through a secular access, one that has transported people and wine, one that connected the old world to the modern one in the city.  It is also a wonderful experience sociologically speaking. You sometimes witness memorable scenes happening in the seat in front of you. It´s us, the locals, already greeting you hello.
