It was oven day. There was a small girls gathering and fire warmed the dome where shaped dough turned into breads and biscuits. These girls are in their sixties, so they helped each other.

At night, we closed the door and brought everything to the kitchen.

A long time ago, here in Douro valley, doors would be kept open at night. The place where the firewood oven was would be a warm and generous ground, a sanctuary where walkers could spend the night while travelling between villages.

Dourowalks programmes involve tasting local products. The ones we make in our firewood oven are some of them.

Book an experience with us and taste them.
